Sophia Simms is one of the many outstanding students that have taken the opportunity to join the FlexGen family as a Systems Engineering intern. She is currently a rising senior at Duke University majoring in Mechanical Engineering as well as pursuing the Innovations & Entrepreneurship Certificate. Last summer, Sophia interned with Siemens Smart Infrastructure, and the summer before that she worked in software development for two medical device startups. During her time on campus, she is involved with Duke Engineers for International Development and Robotics Club and works as technical staff for the engineering first-year design program.
Sophia has an interest in clean energy and has been able to work on projects and conduct research within the field while at Duke. When asked what led her to FlexGen, she replied “FlexGen seemed to offer a great opportunity to learn more about how energy storage can work in tandem with renewable energy systems to more effectively power communities. Also, everyone I met in the interview process was really nice and appeared interested in the work that they do.” This summer, Sophia hopes that she will be able to learn more about the projects FlexGen is working on and make meaningful contributions to the team.
